Vascular and metabolic risk factors of late-life depression

چکیده
Late-life depression (LLD) is a common complex mood disorder with high comorbidity of both psychiatric and physical diseases, cognitive decline, increased mortality. The mechanisms underlying LLD are incompletely understood. heterogeneity complicates research into the mechanisms, factors involved in may differ from those early-life depression. This narrative review provides an overview (micro-)vascular metabolic development LLD. Evidence suggests that cerebral small vessel disease, generalized microvascular dysfunction, risk factors, including diabetes inflammation, contribute to LLD, while role neurodegeneration needs further in-depth investigation. Accordingly, vascular provide promising targets for prevention improvement treatment Guidelines screen cardiovascular care need implementation, as do integrated approaches treat jointly. However, intervention studies needed assess which interventions appropriate most effective clinical practice.

A neuropathological study of vascular factors in late-life depression.
OBJECTIVES Depression is a common psychiatric disorder in late life and it may be associated with vascular disease processes. Although there are clinical and neuroimaging studies lending support to such a "vascular depression" hypothesis there have been no neuropathological studies to directly test this. Postmortem tissue was investigated to determine whether late life depression was associated...

BACKGROUND Causal relationships between vascular factors and late-life depression are controversial. AIMS To investigate prospective associations between risk factors for vascular disease and incidence of late-life depression. METHOD Of 661 community participants aged 65 years or over, without depression at baseline, 521 (79%) were re-evaluated 2 years later. At baseline and follow-up, a di...
متن کاملLate life depression: A literature review of late-life depression and contributing factors
Literature provides a wide variety of information about food intake, physical illness, and psychological disorders among the aging population. Late-onset of depression is one of the most common mental health problems in adults aged 60 or older. The primary purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between late-life depression and nutrition intake among older adults. Secondly, lit...
متن کاملCognitive function in late life depression: relationships to depression severity, cerebrovascular risk factors and processing speed.
BACKGROUND A number of studies have examined clinical factors linked to worse neuropsychological performance in late life depression (LLD). To understand the influence of LLD on cognition, it is important to determine if deficits in a number of cognitive domains are relatively independent, or mediated by depression- related deficits in a basic domain such as processing speed. METHODS Patients...
متن کاملVascular burden and cognitive function in late-life depression.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the relation of vascular risk factors, subclinical, and manifest vascular disease with four domains of cognitive functioning in a large sample of clinically depressed older persons. METHODS A cross-sectional analysis was used, and depressed patients were recruited from general practices and mental healthcare institutes. Presence of a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of ...
